Environmental Crises as Economic, Political and Social Crises

Workshop Report

The consequences of global environmental change for ecological and social systems are becoming increasingly visible, and more and more actors discuss environmental problems in terms of crises. However, academic knowledge on the societal impacts of environmental change is still limited, and the questions of whether or when this constitutes a crisis (and if so, what kind of crisis) remain contested both in the scientific and the political realm. This workshop aimed to bring together interdisciplinary expertise from the Leibniz Association and beyond to discuss these timely topics.

The workshop took place in August 2019 in Braunschweig.
