Multidimensional Framework and Response Matrix for Migration:
Food, Natural, Manmade-Security Crisis and Driving Forces for Migration

Crises consist of continuous processes within human society that are shaped by economic, social, political and environmental factors. Events significantly impact one another and the aspect of globalization adds to the complexity of crises. In order to understand this complexity four Leibniz Institutions joined together to form a consortium to analyze Food, Natural, Manmade-Security Crisis and Driving Forces for Migration. The Institutes ZALF, PIK, GIGA and ZMT will be involved. Additionally, two sections shall be amended (section B: Humanities and educational research and section E: Environmental research). The major goal is to (a) gather and form an interdisciplinary expertise-network and to (b) apply for a research project with the target to enhance the understanding of the driving factors for migration (such as climate change, food security and / or violence). As a result of the project the correlation of the above-mentioned drivers of crisis and their internal dynamics shall be analyzed in order to provide sound policy strategies and / or tools for mitigation and adaptation. Hence, the ministries BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) and BMEL (Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture) will be directly approached and joint open tenders will be considered. The following countries are included: Tanzania, Myanmar, Colombia and Nepal. 5 Master theses and 2 interim reports are planned to be conducted within the project. Additionally, a detailed literature review, along with basic databases for tools, interventions and projects in the context of migration shall be compiled.
